Kade the Claw - 2

It was dawn when Kade snuck out of the compound. Not the best time to travel in the desert, but the time that most wouldn’t think someone would be leaving alone and on foot. Kade wasn’t too worried about the sun though, he was practiced in how to survive out here, even during the day. During his training, the area around the compound was used as a training ground. They would take them out, one by one a day by carriage into the desert, leave them one water container, and no rations. They had dropped him off in all directions over the years, so Kade knew a lot of the terrain, and more than a spots to hide, or get water, or where game came to get water.

At the first mile out, kade came to a cave where he knew water would be. It was less of a cave and more of a crack in the wall that opened up about thirty feet in. there was a trick of water here that he filled up his three bladders that he stole. He also took this opportunity to try on Mehrit’s boots. They were a perfect fit. He now understood why Mehrit covetted these boots so much, they were amzing. He felt like he could run faster, jump higher and walk for 3 days without resting. Kade set off again.

As the day approached dusk, Kade went to look for a cave to camp the night. After a relatively short while, he found a perfect place to shelter him from the intense cold that hit this land at night. It wasn’t that dep of a cave, but the entrance was really small, and easily defensable should anyone find him. Crawling in he was able to see to the back of the cave, and saw that there werent any animals living in here currently. He made a small fire just inside of the cave entrance, in order to keep the bugs out. It was also a good trick to not wake up with scorpions or snakes in your bed.
After lighting the fire, kade noticed a crack in the back of the cave, it was then that he noticed a slight breeze. Kade move closer to the crack, to inspect and make sure there was nothing living in it. He ducked just in time to not get his head removed by the demon that was hiding in the darkness. It was a quasit. Vile little cowardly creatures. Kade’s head felt funny, he felt like he should be terrified of this little thing. He new it could take it in a fight, but the fear was strong and growing. He knew that it was a spell that this quasit had put on him, he fought the fear. He fought the fear with all he and and lunged out with his metal claws. The quasit dodged and blinked out of existance, Kade knew that he had merely turned invisable. Kade shut his eyes. He had been taught how to fight with no sight, though admitedly it wasn’t his best skill.
“Leave thissss place. It issssss mine” Kade heard from inside the cave. It echoed off the walls.
Kade struck out. On the tip of his bladed gloves the quasit reappeard, one blade in each of its eyes. The smug look melted off of the quasit’s face. It reeked horribly, and Kade was quick to remove it from the cave. The smell will also keep other preditors away. Kade slept uncomfortably that night, but he slept uncomfortable every night.

Kade woke up. Between dreams of his escape, and dreams of the child with the mask, he didn’t think he’d ever get a good night of sleep again.

  1. Good background, David. I like the small bits of explanation of character without giving away everything.

Also, I enjoyed the clarity that the last paragraph of this entry gave. Because, I was very confused at first and thought you had horribly misinterpreted our surroundings currently in game.

  2. Oh, I see how it is. Pull the old "It was all a dream" card. LAME. (just kidding, it matches your character well). I like how you set this up. What you did here is fine, but lets avoid too much out of game combat later on.
