It had been four years since the last royal council had taken place in Lionne, and in the opinion of Wilder, it had been far too long. People from all over the kingdom traveled to Castle Almsore in anticipation of the Royal Procession, when the leaders of the Five Kingdoms would parade themselves for all the public to see, into the Castle to begin the annual meeting of minds. The Gold Moon had finally risen, after a long and early Grey. On the 10th day the ceremony would begin. People were moving early to make sure they had a room to stay in and enough money to be in the audience. Looking upon royalty from other lands was a rare honor to any citizen.
Wilder Redstone loved this day, for there were many hungry ears to fill with music of the five kingdoms, and their coin wires loosened oh so graciously this time of year. The big crowds made for many easy targets as well. A minstrel of his standing would always find a tavern to stay in, and after being on the road from the south for five days, he was ready for a bed. He was eager to leave Luccinilli behind him. It had been his home for a few months, but it was time to move on to bigger better things.
He had been all over the Five Kingdoms, and learned storeys, songs, met noblemen, and overheard secrets only few could boast. He must have fathered countless children along the way, but that was simply part of the job. Music doesn't pay all the tabs he had racked up, but sometimes his body could fill his purse just as quickly. The thought of some of his clients made him shiver.
Thanden lay just up the road as he stretched the ache in his back, trying not to fall from the saddle. The people of this little town would no doubt be grateful for such an infamous bard to stay at their Inn, and he was sure he would eat well and sleep comfortable tonight. Just a few more days to Inlakes. Things were starting to look up....
